Ancient History excursion - a spiritual journey.

On October 17, the Year 12 Ancient History class ventured to Brisbane City to visit places of worship for their unit on the “Religions of Ancient China and India”.  In the early morning, they visited the Chung Tian Buddhist Temple at Priestdale.  At the temple, they participated in a Buddhist offering of fruit, meditation, calligraphy, a tea ceremony and rang the bronze bell.  They also toured the Museum and the new Pagoda.
A Chinese banquet was held at the Asian House Restaurant in Chinatown, followed by a stroll around Chinatown to take in the sights and sounds.  In the afternoon, the students viewed the Breakfast Creek Holy Triad Temple, which is the oldest Chinese Temple in Queensland.  Open to all the elements, this temple has survived all the floods of Brisbane.  On the sight is a harmony gate and mural to cleanse one’s thoughts upon entering and also a Buddhist temple and a shrine dedicated to Buddha.
The students were well behaved and good company on the day.  I wish to thank Dr Davies for his help on the excursion.
