The morning of Wednesday, May 6 proved to be an interesting adventure for the Year 10 students as they all participated in the Speed Careering morning arranged by their fellow BEACON Ambassadors. The students spent their first period listening to many members of the community speak about their careers and were able to ask questions about jobs that interested them. The morning allowed students to talk to people in many different careers and included a police officer,  real estate agent, graphics designer, manager, hairdresser, surgeon, photographer,  work experience placement coordinator, paramedic, fitness instructors, animal handler, psychology student, chef, HR manager, IT/youth worker and diesel mechanic.
The morning allowed the students to gain more knowledge about potential careers as well as broaden the scope of careers that they had to choose from. Although the session only lasted 70 minutes, much knowledge was gained and many students said that they had a very interesting and enjoyable morning.
Here are some of the comments from the students themselves:
“Very interesting, especially the Australia Zoo guy.” Kirsten Shoesmith
“I think the day went well and it was lots of fun.” Leon Manuel
I would like to thank my fellow BEACON Ambassadors for their participation in and help to arrange the day. You made the morning very enjoyable and helped your peers with discovering more about future careers. I would also like to thank Mrs Burrows and Mrs Pedwell for their assistance and for overseeing the morning.  Last, but definitely not least, (we couldn’t have don’t it without them) I would like to thank the presenters for an excellent morning. You were all very inspiring and helpful to us as a student body.
