From 'The Arts' Faculty

On Friday 27 April, Visual Art students in Years 11 and 12 visited the Gallery of Modern Art and the Queensland Art Gallery at Southbank. Students enjoyed viewing the Patricia Piccinini – Curious Affection’ exhibition, the ‘Creative Generation Excellence Awards’ and other current exhibitions at these galleries. The aim of this activity was to provide our senior Visual Art and Visual Arts in Practice students with an opportunity to view artwork in a professional context.
Year 10 and 11 Drama students attended Queensland Theatre Company’s live theatre production of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ on Wednesday 9 May 2018. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to view a live production in a professional venue at the Lyric Theatre QPAC. Students have been working on writing an analytical essay in response to this performance for assessment.
A big thank-you to students who were involved in Open Day on May 27. The students gave up their own time on the Sunday to entertain audiences and showcase what ‘The Arts’ faculty has to offer at Caboolture State High School. We had performances from students in the Year 9 Dance class, students in the Junior Dance Eisteddfod team, and students from Music classes. We also showcased the work of our talented artists in the Visual Art classrooms. Once again, thank-you to The Arts staff and students, for their contribution to the day.
In May, both the Junior and Senior Dance Eisteddfod teams competed in their own sections of the Brisbane Dance Eisteddfod.  Again, our performers brought pride to our school performing exceptionally well. Well done to all of our performers, for their ongoing commitment to their teams. These students give up a lot of their own time for rehearsals and performances and we congratulate them on their hard work and commitment. Congratulations to our junior team, who was awarded a Very Highly Commended for their routine. We now look forward to Beenleigh Eisteddfod and Dance Ed in the Spotlight in August. Special mention to Year 12 Dance students, Jessica Bowman (Dance Captain) and Sophie Wildeboer (Dance Mentor), for their ongoing commitment to our teams.
The Year 7, 8 and 9 Music Extension subject will begin in Term 3. These classes are for students who have a genuine interest in Music and are wanting to further develop their music skills. Students must apply to be selected into the Music Extension subject. Please see Miss Dann or Mrs Mayfield for more information.
On Thursday 31 May 2018, the Wind Ensemble competed in ‘Fanfare’ at Banksia Beach State School. This activity was an opportunity for our students to showcase their performance skill and musicianship, and compete against other schools in the area. Congratulations to Mrs Moore, Mr Birmingham, and the wind ensemble for achieving a Bronze place at Fanfare.
Recently, The Arts department exhibited student artwork in a display at the Caboolture Annual Show on 8, 9 and 10 June 2018. Our display looked very professional and included work from Year 7-12 Art. Congratulations to those students whose artwork was selected to be a part of this display and a big thank-you to Mr Mandall, Ms Valmadre, and Mrs Waugh for helping with the set-up of the display.
As the term comes to a close, I would like to wish our ‘Arts’ students all the best with their upcoming assessments and exams. Thank-you to students and parents for the continued support of The Arts and I look forward to working with you again next term.
