From the Principal's Desk

20/08/2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our wonderful school community continues to have its facilities enhanced.  There are two spaces under B block that will be developed into our Engagement Hub.  These spaces will provide the much needed check-in zone for our students before school starts.  It will be the one-stop location to address uniform issues, homework and breakfast club.  The areas will also cater for a student meeting room and offices.  Visiting agencies will be able to engage with our students in programs from these flexible learning rooms.  Development should commence shortly.

The Department of Education is also seeking feedback from the community on its plan to deliver a new special school in Caboolture for the start of the 2020 school year. The department wants to ensure the planning process provides opportunity for input from the local community, and will discuss the preferred options at the meeting. You’re invited to attend the scheduled community consultation meeting being held in our Assembly Hall, on Tuesday 21st August commencing at 6:00pm. Please register your attendance, or for further information, email northcoastregion@qed.qld.gov.au. The Department looks forward to the continued support from the community during this exciting project.

With Term 3 racing away, our Year 12 students have a very busy time over the next three weeks with many of them making final preparations for the QCS tests, which are on September 4 and 5.  The students are very well prepared for QCS and should be confident of success.  The Year 12 exam block is scheduled from Wednesday 12th September to Tuesday 18th September inclusive.  Students are expected to attend normal classes that are scheduled for the remainder of the week, after the exam block. I ask all parents and carers to support their students in this time and please contact the school if you have any concerns.

Our holistic interviews are on Monday 27th August and, as with last year’s interviews, will run from 1pm to 7pm. There are no scheduled classes on this day, as students are expected to attend the interviews with their parents/carers.  These interviews are a very important part of our communication to our community on the education and progress of your children. I am sure that students, parents and carers will find this a positive experience and support their students in progressing towards their educational goals. For our Years 9 and 10 students, the SET Plan interviews are a very important step in preparing for their senior school and post school pathways. Further information regarding the organisation for these interviews will be sent home with students, emailed and advertised on our Facebook page.  If you have any questions regarding the holistic interviews, please contact the school office staff on 54980111.

Congratulations to Kaye Pedwell and our Agriculture Department for their success at the RNA.  Our students’ outstanding work was rewarded with First Prize in the following categories: most points in Section 2; Effective Arrangement; Vegetables; Effective Arrangement and Product Quality; Movement; Backboard and most points scored for a junior competitor in the RNA Agricultural Hall. The dedicated staff and students have, once again, put in a great deal of effort representing the school at numerous shows and exhibitions throughout the year and they thoroughly deserve all their successes.

While the interschool sport season is drawing to a close, with finals in Week 6, sport will continue until the end of term.  Staff will run an intra-school sport program on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons for senior and junior students.   Well done to all students who commit to our interschool sporting programs.  Your sportsmanship and exemplary behaviour are a credit to you and to the school.

Congratulations also to our District Athletics representatives who performed with distinction at the District Athletics Carnival.  Our students competed in over thirty events at the carnival with several students qualifying for the Regional Athletics carnival.  Students with outstanding individual performances which resulted in winning events will be mentioned in the next newsletter.
