From the Principal's Desk

26/02/2018
Caboolture State High is a great school with great staff and students.  Our focus for 2018 is lifting our senior outcomes even higher, building upon literacy and numeracy gains in junior secondary, further targeting specialised and inclusive practices for our students with disabilities and ensuring that we close the gap for all Indigenous students.

Underpinning each of these key priorities is our fundamental belief that every child deserves the right to come to school in a safe and supportive environment. Not only are we here for our students, but we are also here for our families, as it takes a community to raise a child. With life providing students with many challenges, respect and resilience are two values that can and should be reinforced in school and at home on a daily basis.

The achievements that we value are always earned through hard work, effort and perseverance. This journey also means with wins, comes losses and preparing children for these times is also a core part of learning at Caboolture State High. We have a number of frameworks and programs that support the growth of students; Positive Behaviour for Learning and Reboot are two that we heavily invest in across the school.

Positive Behaviour for Learning
This framework uses a multi-tiered system of support aimed at proactively supporting all students. A number of research studies have shown that bullying behaviour is decreased as a result of effective PBL implementation. PBL provides a framework to support anti-bullying initiatives by effective use of data, ongoing and embedded professional development and coaching for staff, and systems to support its implementation. Without these key components, anti-bullying programs are unlikely to be sustainable or effective in the longer term. Key actions that we take on a daily basis are:

1. A schoolwide approach to teaching the social skills needed for success at school.
2. An emphasis on teaching and learning within a positive school and classroom culture.
3. Delivery of quality instruction to maximise academic success for all students.
4. Monitoring of student learning and behaviour through continuous active supervision.
5. High rates of positive acknowledgement for academic and social success.
6. Engagement of all staff, students, parents and the wider community.
7. Multi-year and multi-component approaches to implementation.
8. Modelling of positive social behaviour and values by adults.

Reboot
Reboot gives a practical and proven 7-Step framework to help children and young people develop the skills to engage in life and learning. Grounded in the neuroscience of learning and trauma, developmental and positive psychology, mindfulness and social change theory. Reboot provides simple language and tools to enrich your daily interactions and improve relationships, behaviour, emotional and social wellness and learning outcomes.

Caboolture State High uses a balanced approach when dealing with students; teaching new behaviours, reinforcing positives and applying appropriate consequences. These strategies all provide a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment for students, and high standards of behaviour ensure learning and teaching can occur.

If there is an ongoing issue, we would like to know as we care about every child.
