Gubbi Gubbi Cultural Tour

15/09/2015
On 18 August, 20 Indigenous students from Years 7-10 accompanied Mrs Williams, Mrs Carter, Josh Woods & Ms Bretherton on a cultural tour of the land traditionally owned by the Gubbi Gubbi people.  Students were escorted by Mr Mick Didsman to a number of sites around the Caboolture area and learnt about the cultural significance of these areas to the Indigenous people.  Students were interested to hear how Aboriginal people used a fish trap near Sandstone Point to sustainably catch fish that was used to feed people and also trade with neighbouring groups and how axes were made at a site in Landsborough.  Other sites that were visited included the Midden and Bora Ring at Godwin Beach and the Glass House Mountains Lookout.  Students also enjoyed the opportunity to use ochre to paint their arms and faces.

The day was a fitting way to farewell Mrs Carmen Carter before she took leave for the remainder of the year and to welcome Ms Tammy Bretherton as our new Indigenous Coordinator.
