What if a student could study anything?
Last term, our Year 8/Extension Studies students chose to learn about:
-          making coding easy to understand
-          reducing carbon emissions by finding alternative fuel sources
-          decreasing worldwide pollution
-          making a high and low budget, energy efficient house
-          creating a world with less bullying
-          making smiles contagious
-          helping people live a more active lifestyle
-          stopping deforestation
-          looking good on a budget
-          helping tourists to stay safe on our beaches
-          how to write novels and comics
-          the craft of animation
-          what will happen if fossil fuels run out
-          protecting our animals
Through their major projects, students learnt much about their chosen topics but also much about the inquiry process, project management and about themselves as learners. They’ve all added something to their life skills toolkit and will be better off for it, across all their subjects and beyond.  Their creative muscles also had a workout as they put together a showcase that wowed their visitors. Well done students.
Education Queensland Program of Excellence
LearnIT’s status as an Education Queensland Program of Excellence was renewed late last term. This is great news and credit to the teachers and students who make this such a successful education pathway for our community.
LearnIT in 2019 is looking to keep building its innovative opportunities and developing life-skills for high achieving students through digital technologies and inquiry-based learning.
Interviews for 2019
Interviews are well underway and places are filling fast for Year 7s in 2019. Interested applicants should complete the enrolment process as soon as possible and can find Expression of Interest forms on our website:
Parent Visits
Last term, some of our Year 7 parents paid a visit to see what their students have been doing so far this year in LearnIT. The students loved sharing what they’ve achieved in a short time.
Students are encouraged to keep joining our BYOD program as they can. Those who have, continue to reap the benefits of having their own device to use both here and at home. Information on how to join, specifications and cost is available on our website and from the school.
