International Study Tours

Recently Caboolture High hosted a Japanese Study Tour from Meguro Gaukin High School in Tokyo.  The tour consisted of 15 boys aged 16-17 years.   The Japanese students arrived at our school on Tuesday 11 July and departed on Wednesday 2 August.
During the tour, the students attended 30 specialised English lessons as well as being integrated into our school community to experience a wide variety of classes and subjects including spending time getting up close with the animals down at the Ag farm, cooking lessons with our fabulous Home Economics food department, interesting educational Science lessons with Mr Hooper and much time spent playing basketball and handball at break times.
Our host families welcomed these students into their homes and gave them experiences they have never had in their lives before.  It is really interesting spending time with people from another country and seeing the surprise and amazement when they experience something new.  This can be something that we take for granted, such as the size of our backyards or acreage properties, stars in the night sky, travelling everywhere by car, lighting a fire to keep warm outside on a cold Winter’s night, the classic BBQ, learning how to play handball, the list is endless.  Their first time traveling to Australia and staying within our school community is an experience that will last a lifetime. The tour sadly came to an end, but not before we enjoyed a big farewell dinner.  Approximately 66 people attended the dinner which was made up of Japanese students, CSHS students/buddies, host families and the Japanese teachers and escorts.  We treated everyone to a traditional Aussie roast, potato bake and vegies, topped off by the famous Pavlova for desert.  The entertainment for the evening was a digital touchscreen karaoke jukebox which was kindly supplied by local business Northside Jukebox Hire.  Everyone had fun singing and dancing the night away.
Friendships have been forged and memories created.  When the students departed, there were a few tears and some sad farewells.  I can guarantee that they will all be staying in touch with their Australian families and may one day come back to visit.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a BIG THANK YOU to all of our host families who welcomed our overseas visitors into their homes during this time.   You have all done an amazing job and all your efforts are certainly appreciated.
Each year our school hosts an international study tour, usually during July or August.  Having one of these students as part of your family during their stay is a truly great and rewarding experience.   If you are interested in hosting one of these students in the future, please register your interest by contacting our Study Tour Coordinator, Leanne Long, at the school on 5498 0111
