QUT have provided two great excursions for us this term.

1.       Go for IT gURL- 11 of our Year 10 students left at the crack of dawn (well, maybe not quite that early) to travel to Gardens Point for two days of IT workshops and talks with women involved with IT in their careers.  One of these included an employee of Wotif who, as many of us do, ‘fell into’ IT through her work and has come to love it. The girls said of the day:

-    The workshops were very fun, informative and interactive- great insight into the industry.

-          I really like the pizza (and the mobile app workshop)

-    The workshops were all well put together and the people running them were really lovely

-          I really liked the webpage workshop

-        The facilities were put to good use and we got to see what we would use if we studied IT

2.       Imagine IT- just a short walk away at the Caboolture Campus, our Year 9’s participated in a range of workshops run by university students studying IT courses. They had a lot of fun learning about programming, robotics and web design and said it was great because:

-          I learned different kinds of IT that I didn’t expect

-          I got to work with coding and make a robot move

-          The Alice program was good

-          Arduino was really fun and taught me some coding

-          Killer robots and free food!!

-          You could actually try the activities and not just watch

-       We could use their equipment and Lego to make a robot move and program it so you could control it.
