SPORT & REC STUDENTS SHINE AS VOLUNTEERS

25/08/2014

Year 12 Sport & Recreation students, accompanied by Mr Maher and Mrs Corbett, recently provided volunteer assistance to Caboolture Special School for their Athletics Carnival.  Over two days our students assisted by running a variety of physical activities, games and modified athletics events for the students from preschool to Year 12 at Caboolture Special School.  Our students completed a wide range of tasks including timekeeping, marshalling for track events, place judging and distributing ribbons and encouragement to all the students involved. Carnival organiser, Ben Byrne, was ecstatic with the contribution and assistance provided by Caboolture State High School students and he was particularly impressed with the demeanour and behaviour of our students when communicating with the Caboolture Special School students.

Participating in this joint venture provides the Year 12 Sport and Rec students with the opportunity to demonstrate coaching abilities and assist in a sport and rec environment which makes up two of the key competencies in the Certificate II in Sport and Recreation course offered at our school.

We look forward to continuing to build and strengthen this partnership between these two schools in the future.
