Speed careering broadens student minds

23/07/2012

Our 'speed careering' event, which is one of the major events that involves the entire Year 10 cohort, took place on 30 June in the Caboolture State High School hall.  The aim of this event is to open student's eyes to the world of work, raise their career aspirations and broaden their industry knowledge.  This is achieved by the representation of presenters from a variety of careers and industries, in poistions from entry level to senior management, who possess a variety of experience and knowledge.

For our event, 20 presenters gave up their own time to come along and talk to our Year 10 students.  Each presenter gave a brief snapshot about their work and why they think it is a 'top job'.  The students were then broken up into smaller groups and the presenters moved around the room to talk in more depth about their job, pathway, education etc.  Overall, it was a fantastic opportunity for the students as they were exposed to positive working role models and learned about a variety of careers and industries that they may have never thought of.
