State Championships 2016

State Championships 2016

The 2016 girls and boys football State Championships was held from May 26-31.  Four Year 12 students were selected in the Sunshine Coast Regional team.  Sabrina Savill, Brandy Lee, Jordan Dart and I all had the privilege to travel to Townsville for the four day tournament.
With a new improved scoring system, the overall scores did not reflect the quality football demonstrated among the four days as it was a tight finish in the end.  Unfortunately the boy’s team finished up 9th which did not display the hard work they had endured over the duration of the tournament.
However, a different story is told for the girls team as over the four days they played 7 games and went undefeated with only one goal conceded.  The grand final was a tight action packed match and by the full time whistle it was one all, meaning a shootout was in order.  The girl’s team took it out in the shoot-out 5-3 and were named State Champions.  For three girls in this team, including myself and Sabrina, we have the honour of being State Champions for four years in a row – a remarkable achievement that not many will be able to experience.
Not only this, but two other girls and myself from the regional team have been selected into the State team which will go to Western Australia at the end of August.  Overall, it was a fantastic four days away and it was sad to see it end.
