The Arts Faculty - Update

The Arts Faculty- Update

Term 2 has been full of many exciting events for the The Arts Faculty.  Our Junior and Senior Dance Eisteddfod teams represented Caboolture State High School at the Brisbane Dance Eisteddfod competition in May. Both teams performed exceptionally well - congratulations to all students in the dance eisteddfod team. These students give up a lot of their own time for rehearsals and performances and we congratulate them on their hard work and commitment. We look forward to Dance Ed in the Spotlight for the Senior team and then Gold Coast Eisteddfod in August for both teams.
In Term 1, our Year 12 Visual Arts Studies class began working with local artist, Lloyd Hornsby, on a community project to create a mural for the Caboolture Train Station.  A partnership was formed between Caboolture State High School and Queensland Rail and students were given this fantastic opportunity to learn from and work with a professional artist, create artwork and have their artwork be a part of a mural. The mural has recently been completed and can now be seen at the Caboolture Train Station.  Students involved in this community project should be very proud of their work.  They will be attending the official opening celebration on 4 August.
The Year 12 Dance class has also had the privilege of working with professional dancer and choreographer, Nerida Matthaei, from Phluxus2 Dance Collective.  This is the third year that Nerida has been a guest artist at our school and It has been a very valuable experience for the students as she has taught them dance technique, choreographic skills, and choreographic process as well as sharing her real life experiences in the Dance industry with the students. Students will be attending Phluxus2 Dance Collective’s performance of “The Paratrooper Project” on Friday, 26 June where they will see Nerida perform.
It is just about show time for students in our school musical “Hairspray”!!!! Students and staff have been rehearsing and preparing for the performances on Wednesday, 22 July and Friday, 24 July.  It is going to be a fantastic show with students from Years 7-12 including our Stage Band as well as a well-known staff member making his debut performance on stage!!! We would love to see our students perform to a full audience so we encourage you to come along and support the performers. Tickets are now on sale at the cashier’s office. Adults $8, Students/Concession/Children $6. Performances are at 7pm in the Caboolture SHS Hall on Wednesday, 22 July and Friday, 24 July. We look forward to seeing you there.
Thank you for your support of The Arts at Caboolture High.
