Up, Up and Away!

Our Year 11 and 12 Maths B students recently got the opportunity to learn the basics of how to fly a Super Hornet courtesy of a visit from the Air Force!
The Air Force Simulator Experience is part of a motivational program used to develop interest amongst young people in aviation careers (Pilot, Air Combat Officer, Air Traffic Controller) within the Royal Australian Air Force. The experience consisted of an immersive Super Hornet simulator, air traffic control games, virtual reality experience, aircrew life support gear demonstrations and a variety of aviation presentations. And we were lucky enough to be selected as a participant school!
The students had a great time ‘crashing’ planes on the runways, doing barrel turns in VR while admiring the detail of the plane, and flying an air show routine in the simulator.  They also had the opportunity to have a chat with air force personnel about their roles and career paths.
Some of their comments on the simulator flight:
“Never knew I could have so much fun at school…” Alex
“Extremely engaging and interesting, provided an interesting view into the skill and control of an air force pilot…I thoroughly enjoyed the day.” Geordie
“The experience was unreal – the simulator was so realistic it actually made me motion sick!” Belle
