Year 12 News

With five weeks to go before we’ve reached the halfway point of the final year of schooling for our Year 12s, the students are busy with Extended Experimental Investigations, making cheese, footy carnivals, winter sport, and staying on top of study.
This year I had the honour of attending the South East Queensland School’s ANZAC service  at ANZAC square in Brisbane City, with our four school captains. Callum Young, receiving one of the highest honours of reading the Ode at the ANZAC service to the crowds gathered in the square. Callum held a steady voice and spoke with pride. It was a humbling moment watching our senior leaders stepping up to the plate, and leading by example. On ANZAC day, school students marched in the Caboolture ANZAC march down King Street, with a number of students remaining behind for the service. Caboolture State High School continues to honour our troops, past and present, taking the time to remember the ANZAC spirit.
A group of year 12s have been participating in a friendly competition on Fridays at lunch time, based on the Television show, Rexona’s Greatest Athlete. This term we will crown a “Caboolture’s Greatest Athlete” after eleven weeks of different fitness based tests. We have had the Beep Test, basketball shoot-outs, 100m and 200m sprints, handstands, planks and squat tests. It’s never too late to join in, with some awesome prizes donated by Hart Sport.
Week 6 saw the Year 7s and 9s participating in NAPLAN testing for three days. Each morning a large group of year 12 students helped cook and serve breakfasts to the hungry Year 7 and 9 students. Staff complimented the Year 12s on their responsibility, their willingness to help. Thank-you to those students who came into school early, and gave up their time to help out.
With the end of semester block exams approaching, I’d like to remind students to remember the healthy habits we’ve been focusing on. Organising their time, taking time out to reflect and do things for themselves to manage stress, and to eat well. End of semester is when these habits are most important.
