Year 8 News

23/02/2015

Welcome Year 8.  What a fantastic start to the year it has been!  2015 has seen 165 Year 8 students welcomed to Caboolture State High School. A big thank you is needed for the Year 11 and 12 S.A.F.E.A.S leaders and Year 8 house-group teachers who worked so hard to make the first day such a success for our newest students.

During Day 1, the Year 8 students kicked off their high school journey with a free sausage sizzle, team building activities and creating a school time capsule to help slow down the time, so they do not forget the milestone moments in their lives.  Within this capsule, each house-group contributed a class pack containing a Day 1 house group photo, student letters to their future selves, a hand print and string to determine their height, so they can compare how much they have grown when the time capsule is reopened at the end of their final senior year.

Throughout 2015, the Year 8 students will be given several opportunities to get to know each other and even make a new friend or two.  The first of these events was the Year 8 Mixer, held on Friday, 13 February.  The mixer went off with a bang as students got to eat their favourite pizza, dance to the latest beats and even test out their limbo skills.  Students were also challenged to get involved in a teacher versus student basketball game on Friday, 20 February. A big congratulations to all students who showed outstanding team spirit by participating and a big thank you to those who came along to show their support.

In addition, it was a pleasure to meet so many parents and care-givers at the annual Year 8 Information/disco night.  The information evening was a fantastic opportunity for parents to meet with their students’ house-group and core teachers while the students enjoyed a night of disco fever fun.

As Year 8 Coordinator, I look forward to getting to know each and every one of the Year 8 students and welcome parents and care-givers to get involved in the life that is high school.
