Youth District Exhibits at the Ekka

21/08/2017
This year, students from Caboolture State High School competed against three other schools from Dalby, Lockyer and Northern NSW to build a grain backboard 2m by 3m, and a display in front of this that is 3m by 3.6m wide. Our design featured 140 Years of EKKA, depicting Country Coming to Town. The design had to incorporate all of the fruit and vegetable produce samples to tell a story. There are many categories that are judged in the competition. Across the competition, there was only one category not won by Caboolture State High School and that was the only category we were not entered into.

The following are the categories that Caboolture State High has won this year:

Shellmac Distributors and Marsh P/L - Most Effective Arrangement- First
Marsh P/L Best Movement and /or Animation- Won

Youth District Exhibit – First
The Sir Frank and Lady Sharpe Prize for Overall Winner Youth Districts Exhibit
AG & AE Brimblecombe Best Backdrop
Best Visual Display of Grains on the floor
Shellmac Distributors Most Points in Section Two
Most Points in Sub Section (vi) Agricultural Produce- Tied First
Graham Rayner Memorial Award for Most Points in Sub Section (v) Vegetables- Tied First

Students put together a scene of cattle being herded on horseback and with motorbikes. The grain display featured a man cooking dinner for the people working with the cattle. Three separate mechanical movements had a kangaroo jumping off to the left of stage, a cow walking off to the right of stage and a female dog feeding her puppies.

Particular thanks goes to students Piper Young, Arnyha Kross, Luke Maiden, Jemma Shipp, Katelyn McEwan, Nicole Donohue, Riley Forrester, Jack Berry and Alana Bowden who actively went down to the Ekka to assemble the display. Many more students across Rural Operations classes and cattle showing students, along with students working on the display at lunch times and before school, contributed to the making of the pieces used in the display. This is a credit to all students involved. Work has already started on the entry for next year with senior students already making plans for the design. Well done students.

Many thanks to our sponsors: Fresh Approach, DJ &TD Lindsay, Pinata Farms P/L and Suncity Roofing P/L.
