Senior Secondary is an exciting time and critical time in a student’s education journey. Students have the opportunity to develop skills and capabilities that prepare them for whichever post-secondary education pathway they desire. Caboolture State High School offers a wide range of subjects and courses to cover a diverse range of abilities, skills and interests.

What are the learning pathways?
General Subjects
General subjects prepare you for tertiary study, further education and training and work. They include Extension subjects and Senior External Examination syllabuses.
General subjects may contribute up to 4 credits per subject towards your QCE. They may also contribute to your ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank).
Applied Subjects
Applied subjects focus on practical skills and prepare you for further education and training, and work. Applied subjects may contribute up to 4 credits per subject towards your QCE. One Applied subject may also contribute to your ATAR when combined with four General subjects.
Vocational Education and Training
Vocational Education and Training (VET) VET courses develop your skills and get you ready for work through practical learning. VET can also lead to further education and training. VET courses range from Certificate I qualifications to Advanced Diplomas.
One VET course at Certificate III level or higher, when combined with four General subjects, may also contribute to your ATAR. VET courses may contribute up to 8 credits per course towards your QCE.

Apprenticeships and School-based Traineeships
A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship combine training with paid employment. You can start a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship in Years 10, 11 or 12 with approval from your school.
You'll complete a nationally recognised training qualification and gain valuable skills at work under the guidance of a training organisation.

Recognised subjects/courses from Training and Further Education (TAFE) and university
You may choose a combination of the above.
Unique Student Indentifier (USI)
ALL SENIOR STUDENTS REQUIRE A UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER
A USI can be created here.
A USI is your individual education number for life. It also gives you an online record of your VET training undertaken in Australia.
If you're undertaking study at university, TAFE or doing other nationally recognised training, you need a USI. Without one, you can't get Commonwealth financial assistance or your qualification or statement of attainment.
For all students, their chosen learning pathway must make them eligible to achieve either a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or a Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA). In Year 10, our curriculum broadens to maximise student's choices around their interests, talents and learning needs.
