Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications are nationally recognised qualifications that equip students with practical skills and knowledge for specific industries. These qualifications enhance work readiness and provide pathways to further education, training and employment.
At Caboolture State High School, VET is integral to senior studies, offering students opportunities to:
- Gain credit points towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
- Earn nationally recognised qualifications at Certificate I, II or III levels.
- Transition to employment or higher education pathways with practical experience and workplace knowledge.
- Develop critical employability and interpersonal skills.
In the QCE system, completing a VET Certificate III or higher, combined with General subject results, can contribute to a student's Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). This approach recognises the value of VET while ensuring students maintain academic breadth for tertiary study.
Access to VET certificates is open to all students throughout Year 10, 11 and 12. Subjects will be offered if enrolment numbers are viable and trainer and physical resources comply with VQF standards. All students enrolling into a VET qualification must have a USI (Unique Student Identifier) number. https://www.usi.gov.au/
Internal and External VET Offerings
Our school is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO No. 7061) delivering qualifications on our scope of registration and partnering with external RTOs to provide additional options. Internal VET courses are scheduled within the school timetable, while external courses release students one day per week to attend training. Please note: release days are determined by the RTO offering the course and are out of the school's control.
Benefits of Vocational Education and Training
Participating in VET offers students:
- Practical workplace experience.
- Industry-recognised qualifications or Statements of Attainment.
- Insights into workplace operations and culture.
- Development of interpersonal and employability skills.
- Opportunities to explore potential career paths.
Students can also access TAFE at School programs and private VET providers, broadening their learning opportunities. These programs not only contribute to their QCE but also provide a competitive edge for future employment, further studies or apprenticeships. Through strong partnerships with external RTOs and alignment with the Australian Qualifications Framework, Caboolture State High School ensures students receive quality vocational training tailored to their aspirations.
Fees
Subject charges vary according to individual Certificate requirements—refer to the individual course information located in the Senior Subjects document library. A pro-rata refund policy applies if a student withdraws from a course where the school is the registered training provider. For courses provided by external registered training providers, students and parents should carefully review the refund policy as outlined in each course description.
VETiS Funding
VET in Schools (VETiS) funding is an initiative by the Queensland Government that enables eligible students to complete nationally recognised qualifications at no cost while still in school. This funding is provided under the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program and is limited to one qualification per student.
VETiS-funded qualifications are typically at the Certificate I or II level and focus on entry-level skills development aligned with industry priorities. These courses are delivered by registered training organisations (RTOs) and are designed to provide students with practical skills and knowledge, enhancing their employability and career readiness.
Eligibility for VETiS Funding
To access VETiS funding, students must:
- Be currently enrolled in Years 10, 11 or 12 at a Queensland secondary school.
- Be eligible for government funding as part of the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program.
- Choose a qualification from the Priority Skills List determined by the Queensland Government, which aligns with skills shortages and employment opportunities in key industries.
Key Features of VETiS Funding
- One Qualification Rule: Each student is entitled to VETiS funding for one qualification only. If a student wishes to undertake additional qualifications, they may need to fund these privately.
- Priority Skills List: VETiS funding is available for courses in high-demand industries such as construction, automotive, health, hospitality and more.
- External RTO Delivery: VETiS-funded qualifications are typically delivered by external RTOs that meet the program's requirements. These RTOs work in partnership with the school to ensure students receive quality training and support.
- Fee-for-Service (FFS) Option: If a student has already used their VETiS funding, they can still enrol in additional courses by paying the applicable Fee-for-Service (FFS) cost.
Application Process
Students interested in accessing VETiS funding should consult the school's Industry Liaison Officer or Senior Schooling Head of Department to discuss eligible courses and confirm their suitability for the student's career pathway. careers@cabooltureshs.eq.edu.au
Benefits of VETiS Funding
- No Cost to Students: Students can achieve a nationally recognised qualification without incurring course fees.
- Industry-Relevant Training: Courses focus on equipping students with practical, job-ready skills in high-demand industries.
- Pathway to Further Study: VETiS qualifications contribute to the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and may lead to higher-level qualifications or apprenticeships.
For students who have exhausted their VETiS funding, the Fee-for-Service (FFS) option ensures they can continue to pursue their vocational education goals by paying the course fees directly.

TAFE at School
Get More Out of High School
TAFE at School allows students to pursue their passion and gain a head start on their career while still in high school. With a wide range of Certificate I to Certificate III courses available, students can explore various fields, from hospitality to horticulture, early childhood education to engineering, and everything in between.
How It Works
TAFE at School provides students with the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification while continuing their high school studies. TAFE courses are designed to complement school timetables, often replacing one senior schooling subject and aligning within Queensland term dates.
Students typically attend TAFE one day per week and school for the remaining four days, making it easy to balance both commitments. This flexible arrangement allows students to graduate job-ready and equipped with the skills needed for their chosen career path or further study. School approval is required, and students must meet specific academic, attitudinal and behavioural standards.
