In order to transform our Year 7, 8 and 9 Caboolture State High School students into global citizens who are ready to examine the world through a critical lens, our junior secondary students participate in the High Resolves Program.
Our Year 7 students examine their own identity and the impact their actions have on those around them when they participate in the 'Identity and Purpose' Peak Experience. They question the 'truths' they believe about themselves and others in order to develop a sense of empathy. They learn to reflect on their actions and will begin to ask themselves how their actions impact others.
Whereas our Year 8 students build on their knowledge from their previous High Resolves experiences and examine what it truly means to have a 'just society'. They not only get involved in the 'Just Society' Peak Experience, but they also explore these ideas through a series of lessons in their Humanities classes. The purpose of these lessons is to further deepen their understanding of society and how their place in it can influence their experiences of our 'land of opportunity'. All of which ends with the students following an injustice they are passionate about and making their own Video for Change to influence other peoples' awareness of a key issue.
Meanwhile our Year 9 students are taken through a crash course in collective co-operation during their Peak Experience 'Better Self'. They learn about the importance of collective action in order to solve problems faced by society as they work as a whole to support individuals. They learn important life lessons about how to measure the impact their actions can have on others.
Videos for Change is an initiative that our Year 8 and Year 9 students participate in, which offers them an opportunity to have their voice heard on social justice issues they are passionate about. Our Year 9 students also have the opportunity to submit their videos to the National Competition, presenting them the challenge of not only influencing their school community, but also having an impact on a National level.
Becoming globally engaged citizens is more important than ever – High Resolves is a great program that supports our students' social development.
