Our School Chaplain is located on the lower level of C Block.
School chaplains are in the prevention and rescue business - helping students find a better way to deal with issues ranging from family breakdown and loneliness to drug abuse, depression and suicide. Chaplains provide a listening ear and a caring presence for students in crisis and those who just need a friend. They also provide support for staff and parents in school communities.
Chaplains are present in schools at the invitation of the principal, in consultation with the local community and with the support of the Parents and Citizen Association. There are now over 500 school chaplains servicing over 800 schools in Queensland!
Chaplains are involved with different support programs for all year levels, providing different services as required. There is also the opportunity for students to refer themselves, or have a parent do so, to have a one on one session with the Ellen about issues they may face in the school environment. Chaplains provide a safe and interesting place for students to come at break times.
Will my child be involved?
Involvement is entirely voluntary and students choose whether or not they want to be a part of the activities we offer. Parents will be consulted if their child wishes to be involved in ongoing one to one meetings or in any program or group involving spiritual or ethical content. Parents have the right to refuse permission for their child to be involved in any chaplaincy activity or event.
