Excellence in cardiac medicine

Dale Murdoch attended Caboolture State High School from 1995 to 1999.  He was Academic Champion at every year level and was named Senior Dux in 1999.  Dale was interested in every aspect of school life and participated in national competitions in English, Mathematics, Science and Chinese where he performed with distinction.  He also participated successfully in debating, public speaking and creative writing competitions.

On the sporting field, volleyball was his main love.  In Year 10, Dale was named Junior Sportsman of the Year.  In Year 12, he was a member of the Boys Senior Open Volleyball Team (Division 2) which won the Queensland Championship.  He was House Captain for Fraser and won the Senior All Rounder Award in Year 12.

In 2000, Dale enrolled at the University of Queensland and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in 2002, and a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery in 2006.  After graduation, he completed his post-graduate training in medicine, specialising in cardiology.  He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and worked at the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, mastering a wide range of invasive cardiology techniques and technologies.

In 2015, under the mentorship of Professor John Webb MD, Dale undertook a two year fellowship in Vancouver, Canada.  Here, he focussed on structural heart disease intervention and transcatheter heart valves, including first-in-human trials of transcatheter technologies.

Dale has now returned to the Prince Charles Hospital where he is a fulltime cardiologist and has performed Australian-first heart procedures.  He is strongly focussed on research and has written over 40 peer-reviewed articles, presenting his research at international conferences, as well as lecturing at the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland.
