Excellence in community service
Lina Barro was born in Italy and came to Queensland with her mother and sister in 1954, her father having arrived here in 1951. She attended Caboolture State High School from 1964-1966, being part of the first group of Year 8 students to attend high school. She later married Lew Bishop who was a teacher at Caboolture High for many years.
Lina began her community service while her children attended St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, volunteering in the Canteen. During her children’s schooling years at Caboolture SHS, Lina worked with the Ladies Auxiliary Committee. Over a period of eight years, she also worked as a volunteer at Tuckshop, becoming Assistant Convenor and eventually Convenor, a position she still holds. Volunteering at the Caboolture Community Information Centre began in 1982 after all her children had commenced their schooling. Currently, she holds the coordinator’s role at the Information Centre.
Lina was a foundation member of the Caboolture Hospital Auxiliary in 1992, holding various positions over the years and being the current secretary. Together, she and Lew volunteer at the Hospital Canteen two nights a week, as well as every second Saturday. Lina has worked at local rodeos, the Urban Music Festival and Caboolture Show, and has been a shopping centre volunteer for World Vision. She is also a Community Justice of the Peace.
